Pino’s after over 120 year’s is a true old school neighborhood institution, with its hand-lettered signs, nineteenth century fixtures, it feels like a little piece of old New York.
Located in Soho, it’s centered in a vibrant community of Italian immigrants who settled in this neighborhood a hundred years ago.
Raised on a farm, Pino has been carving up sheep, pigs and cattle since he was a teenager in the Sicilian village of Castro Filippo, so meat is in his blood.
He came to America on his honeymoon and has resided here since. In 1978 he took over the butcher shop from his friend Mario.
His whole family are butchers, “Grandparents, great- grandparents, cousins, even the women”.
Customers and friends say “Chao Pino!”, as every evening they shave a layer of wood off the butcher block to have fresh sawdust on the floors in the morning.
Specializing in Italian meats, prime cuts, house-made sausages, pancetta, lamb, pork and wild game, thick-cut bacon, tomahawk steaks, fresh chickens and several dry aged options.
Scenes from The Godfather part II and The Pope of Greenwich Village were shot here, and even Jackie Onasis got her steaks at Pino’s.
Pino’s Prime Meat Market has a very knowledgeable staff that value quality and authenticity.
Its cash only and its open Monday through Saturday 8:30 am till 6:00 pm.
