Discovery, Preservation, and Art at Gus & Ruby Letterpress in Portsmouth
Here’s the seed of a story that I hope will grow into something special. Gus and Ruby are the names of the dogs belonging to owners Samantha Finigan and Whitney Swaffield. Letterpress is a printing process using restored antique machines that emboss as they print. I visited the Portsmouth store about a month after I bought some birthday party supplies for my son, Jamie in Portland, ME. They have another store in Boston, too! Threestores on Route 1. Samantha & Whitney must know what they’re doing.
What they’re really doing most is designing and printing custom invitations and announcements on their vintage machines in New Hampshire. Their work is superlative, both in its design and its execution. Check it out here
