Overbrook Farmers Market
One of my favorite warm weather traditions on Route One is to visit Farmer’s Markets. These are open air opportunities to explore new foods, to meet people who are opportunists like me, to connect with grow, prepare and transport wonderful fresh food and produce.
On Saturdays from June to November, there’s a Farmers Market next to the Overbrook Presbyterian Church. It is directly on Route 1 (City Line Avenue) at Lancaster Avenue, only about 3 miles from where I live. There’s a vendor who specializes in fresh vegetables. Walnut Spring Orchards brings fresh fruit, honey, and freshly baked goodies from Lancaster County, and Homestead Gardens brings plants from their greenhouse 60 miles west of Philadelphia. The atmosphere is friendly, congenial and engaging. Talking to the people who put food on my plate makes it taste even more delicious.
