The Maine Diner - Classic Diner Fare With a Local Flair
As you drive up route 1 through Wells, Maine, you are overwhelmed with business after business trying to get your attention. It’s a vacationer’s paradise of specialty stores, motels, and gift shops. Once you start leaving that densely crowded portion of the road, it feels as if you are beginning to see the Maine that is quieter and more serene. That’s when you find the Maine Diner.
It’s a classic diner experience, with fresh, well-made food and the waitresses are on point. Although the line was out the door, the turnover was fast and furious because it took no time to get seated, and almost by magic, a fresh cup of (really good) coffee appeared. There is no sense of urgency or feeling rushed out the door; it’s simply that the staff is “that good,” and you are never left wondering who to flag to get a refill.
After ordering a vegetable stuffed omelet, I started looking around at some of the decorations on the walls. It was a delightful mix of the classic diner and “do a double-take” uniqueness. There were plenty of fun things to keep you occupied while waiting for your food.
The Maine Diner has been featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives and Phantom Gourmet. But don’t let that notoriety worry you. They may be world-famous, but you are sure to get a down-home, just like your grandma used to make type meal every time.
Visit them on their Facebook page or check out their website.
