Then and Now - Steinert Hall - Boston, MA

Steinert Hall is a historic concert hall in Boston, Massachusetts. It was built in 1896, under the M. Steinert and Sons piano store, as a place they could show what their products could do to their customers. Performances in the hall, which had gained the nickname “Little Jewel” because of its amazing acoustics, continued until 1942. 

In November 1942, there was a fire at the Cocoanut Grove nightclub that killed almost 500 people, and new restrictive fire codes were put in place. Steinert closed the hall instead of paying for the required updates to comply with the new codes. The hall was used for storage over the years, and in 2020, Steinert sold the building. The new owners plan on turning the building into luxury condos, but have not said what their plans are for the concert hall.
