Top Marks in our Best BBQ Quest in Fredericksburg, VA
There’s a lot of barbecue offerings in the South. More than you can possibly cram into your pie hole during a 10-day trip. But right out of the gate, on our first day on the road, we found Allman’s to be an extremely satisfying stop. Brisket, ribs, and pulled pork were all outstanding. All of the sides we tried were excellent, too. There’s lots of history in the place. James and Daisy Allman opened the place in 1954 and ran it with family help until “Pappy’s” retirement in 1967. Mary “Mom” Brown began working there in 1960 and didn’t retire until 2011. Matt Haney has owned and operated the place with Kathy Rowe since 2002. The food is authentic, traditional, and served with pride. The building honors the tradition that was started by the Allmans with so many well-maintained throwback touches. I hope you give it a try the next time you pass through Fredericksburg on Route One.
