Truman's Little White House
Step back in time to the late 40s and 50s at Truman’s Little White House. While the building was built in 1890 as the first officers quarters on the naval station the house was converted into a single family dwelling at the beginning of the 20th century. Thomas Edison resided in the home during World War I, President Eisenhower recuperated from a heart attack here and President Kennedy was here during the Bay of Pigs.
After President Truman’s doctor ordered him to a warm vacation, he arrived in the Keys in November 1946 for a week of relaxation. He fell in love with the charm of the small town and it became known as the Winter White House. While cabinet members and foreign dignitaries became regular visitors, they also played poker and went on fishing trips.
The museum is home to many original fixtures and objects of historic interest and you can even ride in the presidential limousine
