Florida has an abundance of outdoor beach friendly activities, but Ft Lauderdale Beach introduced their 20 foot snowman Olas back in 2015 as their holiday mascot to brighten up the shoreline.
Olas is made of sand and his name is a nod to both Los Olas Boulevard, but also to the character Olaf from Disney’s movie Frozen.
He’s on display from mid November through early January at Los Olas Oceanside Park at the intersection of Los Olas Boulevard and A-1-A in Ft Lauderdale, and there is plenty of parking in this area.
This larger than life sand-hued snowman is illuminated along with more than 50,000 holiday lights at 6:30 p m daily as part of the Light Up the Beach program.
Olas has become quite a popular photo spot and some families and friends get fully decked out in holiday attire and Santa hats to pose with Olas.
The pictures here are an album of the sandy snowman through the years. This year’s Olas’ attire is a sailor theme.
Of course there are stores and restaurants everywhere in this area, but just take a shop-stopping moment, and get a picture with Olas, while he’s still here.
