A Time for Patriots the Liberty Bell

The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American independence located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The town has History for Day’s.

Commissioned in 1752 by the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly from London’s Whitechapel Bell Foundry and was cast with the lettering “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout the land unto all of the inhabitants There of” a Biblical verse from the book of Leviticus.

The Bell was first cracked when rung after it’s arrival in Philadelphia and was twice recast by local workmen John Pass and John Stow.   In its early years the Bell was used to summon lawmakers to legislative sessions and to alert citizens about public meetings and proclamations.

The Bell was adopted as a symbol by the people who wanted to outlaw slavery, the Abolitionists whom dubbed it the Liberty Bell.

The Bell required its distinctive crack sometime in the early 19th century.

Weighing 2,080 pounds and about four feet tall, the bell is composed of 70% copper, 25% tin, with traces of lead, zinc, arsenic, gold and silver.

Each year more than a million people visit the Liberty Bell.

It’s located in Independence Mall where you can see Independence Hall in the distance.   The Liberty Bell center is open year-round including major holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m,  located on Market Street between 5th and 6th Street.

Best of all there are no tickets and no fees and our waiting time was about 15 minutes.
