America's First Mile - The Top of Route 1
Everything starts somewhere, and US Route 1 starts at America’s First Mile at a granite monument in Fort Kent, Maine. U.S. Route 1 runs for 2,369 miles all the way from this spot to Key West, Florida. Before starting on your Route 1 journey, you might take a moment to visit this historic spot.
Until 2010, the northernmost spot on the US Route 1 map was a simple wooden sign. The new granite monument was built in its place as a permanent testament to America’s longest and easternmost north-south roadway.
