    Baxter Boulevard Portland, ME vintage post card

    Designed by Olmsted, Olmsted and Eliot in 1895, it was originally called Back Cove Boulevard when it opened in 1917, before it was renamed in honor of Mayor James Phinney Baxter, who initiated the project. The road was part of Route 1 until 2007. in 1989, Baxter Boulevard was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic landscape district.
