For the first time in it’s almost 100 year existence, the Coral Gables City Hall has begun a complete restoration.
The building was a major element in the plans of George. E Merrick, founder of Coral Gables, to create a Spanish-Mediterranean city,
The city hall, was completed in 1928 after taking just over a year to build. Architects Phineas Paist who designed the locally famous Venetian Pool and Harold Steward worked with Denman Fink, who was the artistic advisor on the three story structure.
It was built of local coral limestone, has a stuccoed exterior, tile roof, central three stage clock tower and a Corinthian colonnade.
Oh, on July 24 1974 it was added to the US National Register Historic Places.
The Coral Gables City Hall restoration design efforts are now going to be completed in one continuous phase by 2027.
