Cruise over to John's - Daytona Beach, FL
There are free spirits everywhere in Daytona Beach. Many of them just spend a week there, most famously on their motorcycles for Bike Week. One of the guys who is on Main Street year-round in Daytona Beach is Johnny Sanchez, who looks forward to connecting to every Deadhead (Grateful Dead fan) and every bike rider who darkens the door of his store.
Some of Johnny’s merchandise is original artwork, available nowhere else. He does a shirt for Bike Week every year, which usually sells out. His “We Are Everywhere” collectables for Deadheads cover the shelves and the racks, as well. He has pins, hats, keychains, jewelry, pipes, patches, papers, mugs, cannabis drinks, clothing, posters and other collectable art. When we visited, John had a basket of ducks right out in front of the store, because “Jeep Week” was about to take place in Daytona. Apparently Jeep owners are fond of decorating their rides with ducks, and John is at the ready to give the crowd what they want. He’s done this before… he’s in his third decade at the store! John sells Cuban style coffee out of respect for his heritage, but his accent is decidedly all Bronx!
John is one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet, happy to give you the lowdown on what went down before you arrived, where to go now that you’re here, and how to get there while having a great time.
