Get ready for the annual Key West Rum Fest celebration which takes place August 12-16 with sandbar
parties, sunset sails, boat cruises, live music, rum tastings galore and even a trip to Havana, Cuba.
The Island’s legendary tropical vibes are dedicated to celebrating the history, culture and flavors of rum with all the local mouthwatering seafood.
Whether you are a casual cocktail drinker or an avid rum connoisseur, this multi-day event aligns with National Rum Day on August 16.
One of the highlights of the festival is a Ernest Hemingway themed day trip to Havana, Cuba, departing from Key West airport at 7am and returning at 6 pm ( bring your passport). A guided day trip itinerary focusing heavily on Hemingway’s life in Cuba and the island’s famous cocktail culture including
Finca Vigia (Lookout House) Hemingway’s historic Cuban home and a state museum where his famous fishing boat “Pilar” holds court.
There’s also a visit to Cojimar, the charming coastal fishing village that served as a scenic backdrop for his novel “The Old Man and the Sea”, an authentic Cuban lunch at a private privately owned restaurant with a Cuba Libres (rum and Coke).
Of course, back in Key West, you can enjoy a Rum Crawl to Hemingway’s favorite bars and attend Rum Church or a Rum-Symposium, educational masterclasses featuring renowned global rum ambassadors.
There are grand tastings of premium and rare rums, including a rum cake competition and rum themed meals.
Prices vary by events and there is numerous merchandise available.
