If you’re a barbecue lover, stop here! Maurice Bessinger has been slow-cooking his epic recipes since 1953. John Margolies took a photo of this sign in the 1980s, and it is still there for you retro fans! I had hoped to get a night shot of this sign when I was in Columbia, but it turned cold & rainy. Maybe next time!

Peter - I love this project; the whimsy, nostalgia, highlights of regional curiosities and forgotten landmarks!    And the site is cleverly designed.    I feel compelled to point out, however , that despite the cute sign and tasty barbecue Maurice Bessinger was an unabashed and open racist www.thestate.com/news/business/article13839323.html whose restaurants flew large confederate flags and sold pro-slavery literature along with the food.
