Nestled into the fabric of a thriving neighborhood in Hoboken, NJ is an unassuming recording studio and music education center on Washington Street. My Producer, Vanessa Silberman found it, and recommended that we record a song that we co-wrote called “Home For Now”. Dan McGloughlin was our contact there, and over 2 days he took on the roles of pianist, bassist and organist in addition to being the studio engineer.
The spaces were all super-comfortable, and their vintage equipment fit the vibe of the song seamlessly. Give a listen to the Hammond organ played through a Leslie speaker in the recording! Every once in a while, I’d walk out of the soundproofed cocoon to hear the strains of a music student studying their instrument or singing with their instructors, which inspired me and gave me a very positive feeling.
Further up on the street, there were restaurants and coffee shops all along Washington Street when we needed a mental break or a bite to eat. There’s a lot to be said for studios that are isolated in the woods where you can focus all of your energy into what you’re recording, but Hoboken, despite its parking challenges, was walkable, convenient, and mostly un-intimidating after dark.

I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and find a new recording studio on Route One in accordance with the theme of the song. I was happy to have landed in such a comfortable place that felt as inviting as my new home within no time.
