Old School Herbie's Bar and Chowder House-Marathon
Don’t let the Florida roadside shack appearance fool you, Herbie’s is one of the oldest operating restaurants in the Florida Keys, established in the 1940s under the name of Maggie’s Chowder House.
You are sure to find sun burnt vacationers and locals that often become your drinking buddies.
The only thing old school about the menu is everything is prepared from scratch and that includes grinding their own grass fed, beef, conch, sausage and hot dogs.
Their Manhattan clam chowder and conch chowder is easily the best in the islands, and Guy Fieri with “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” really digs their chicken with smashed potatoes.
It’s family friendly with indoor and outdoor seating and they have a terrific beer selection.
If you want an authentic vibe Keys experience, Herbies is the place and it’s right off Route 1.
