Motoring magazines flourished along with the automobile industry, as the demand for personal transportation arose at the beginning of the 20th Century. Published only 12 years after Route 1 was established, this promo for Penobscot Bay in Maine was a typical entry in these travel mags, which were often sponsored or published by State tourism boards. The map is badly out of date since it does not show the Waldo-Hancock Bridge near Bucksport that was completed in 1931.
