Rocket Launch Thrills from Coconuts on the Beach, Cocoa

Sixty years ago, my family would pile into the car, and we’d drive to Cocoa Beach to see the rocket launches from Cape Canaveral. 

 

As a kid, I remember the exhilaration and thrill of the rockets ascending into the sky.  To hear and feel the rumble of the engines blast was the coolest.

 

Today the best experience is when Space X launches the heavy version of the Falcon 9 rocket, which has two extra boosters strapped on.

 

On average, launches occur every five days or over 75 a year, so if you’re down there for a few days on vacation, there’s a good chance you could catch one. 

 

Rocket launches can be seen from a 100 miles away depending on the size of the rocket, but Florida is pretty flat.  Bring your binoculars if you want to see the rockets up close.

 

One of the best places to watch a launch is Coconuts on the Beach.  A true beach bar that offers live music, fantastic cocktails, great food, and its where all the locals go.

 

It’s the perfect laid back spot to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Florida’s coastline. Whether you’re soaking up the sun, taking a refreshing swim or simply strolling along the beach.

The open air layout gives you stunning views, with a fresh ocean breeze right on the sand.  

 

For a beach bar, the food here is very good. The coconut shrimp, the grilled mahi mahi and the tuna poke nachos were our favorites. 

 

Its family and dog friendy and it’s only a short walk to the Cocoa Beach pier for the sunrises and sunsets, watching the sky transform with vibrant hues of purple, pink and orange. 

 

So if you’re craving seafood, and you need a tropical tropical drink, grab your flip flops and put on your bathing suit and come on down.

 

It’s just a short drive off Route 1.
