Sunrise Theater Fort Pierce Florida
In the heart of Fort Pierce Florida, within sight of the picturesque waters of the Indian River lies an iconic old Florida theater.
Over a century ago the Sunrise Theater earned a reputation as being the greatest and biggest cultural institution in Florida at the time. It had the largest stage between Jacksonville and Miami and over 1200 seats.
Built by C.E. Cahaw, the Sunrise Theater was designed in the Mediterranean Revival by architect John N. Sherwood.
It’s opening day was August 1st 1923, as a vaudeville house and movie palace.
Stepping inside you’re hit with a wave of vintage atmosphere. It’s almost magical how the hustle and bustle of the world just jades away.
Walking through the grand lobby, the theater has intricate designs with detailed ornate moldings that transport you to an era where elegance was the name of the game.
Beautiful chandeliers hang from the ceiling, while the plush velvet seats feel like getting a hug from an old friend.
The acoustics are remarkably like butter smooth , perfectly making every note resonate.
Today the Sunrise Theater with its historic charm and impressive roster of events brings a unique cultural experience to South Florida
Broadway shows, comedians and musical concerts like Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, Lindsay Buckingham, Bryan Adams, Tony Bennett and Kris Kristofferson have graced the stage.
This place rocks just a couple blocks off Route 1.
