Sweet Start to a Beach Day: Bread & Roses Bakery, Ogunquit, Maine
If you’re driving down Route 1 through Ogunquit and catch the smell of fresh pastries and coffee drifting through town, you’ve found Bread & Roses Bakery. This beautiful little spot has been a local favorite since 1989, serving scratch-made baked goods, light breakfast fare, and some of the best blueberry muffins on the coast.
Just a few blocks from Ogunquit Beach and the Playhouse, it’s the ideal first stop of the day. Grab a cappuccino and a pastry to-go before your morning walk across the Footbridge, or settle at one of the small tables to enjoy the bustle of town life. When I lived across the street, eating here was a morning ritual. The coffee was hot and delicious, and no matter what was in the case, it tasted spectacular.
Why It’s Worth the Stop
Bread & Roses is more than a bakery. It is a staple for locals and road-trippers. Everything is made in-house, from croissants and cinnamon rolls to savory hand pies. Their pies and custom cakes draw regulars year-round, but in summer, the blueberry muffins steal the show.
The atmosphere is warm, the staff friendly, and the pastry case always full, a perfect reflection of Ogunquit’s small-town charm.
