The Amelia Concours on Amelia Island
The Amelia is renowned for displaying some of the rarest automobiles in the world. This four day classic car celebration at the Ritz-Carlton on Amelia Island is one Ritzy car gathering. Beginning on March 2nd and ending on Sunday March 5th with the 28th Annual Amelia Concours d’ Elegance.
Concours means a restored classic near original perfection, where dating back to 17th century France aristocrats paraded horse drawn carriages throughout the parks of Paris during summer weekends and holidays.
With 32 car classes and seminars, each day is eventful fun for enthusiasts
It all begins on Thursday with the Porsche Winemakers fine dining experience, featuring a noted sommelier. On Friday the Porsche Driving Experience includes an autocross in one of the latest Porsches and a spirited ride with a professional driver. The big seminar event today is “Corvette at Lemans” with the panel of the people who took Corvette to LeMans with a screening of the film “The Quest” about 1960 when the Corvettes joined the field at the French 24 hours Le Mans.
Every year the Amelia celebrates a racing legend and this year’s honored guest is Jeff Gordon the NASCAR racing star. He holds a seminar with his former crew chief and then on Saturday evening a dinner salutes his illustrious career.
Sunday is the 28th Annual Amelia Concours d’Elegance with 350 historically significant vehicles and another 150 awesome vehicles from the ’80s and ’90s, all vying for various awards and accolades.
