Key West Wildlife Center
After shooting videos of our friends kite surfing at Higgs beach in Key West, we were walking to our car when we spotted a sign for the Key West Wildlife Center.
Entering through the gates we found a nature trail with a freshwater pond and two aviaries full of birds.
They operate a clinic on the property to provide treatment to injured Wildlife that’s open 24/7.
Whether it’s local fisherman, tourists boating, kayaking and jet skiing, they bring in mostly injured birds every day.
They rehabilitate over 1400 wild birds annually and return them to the wild.
Unfortunately they were removing a lot of fish hooks and snagged fishing lines from birds, including repairing pouch lacerations on pelicans.
We saw snow egret, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, broad-winged hawks, laughing gulls and many local roosters.
Admission is free to the seven acre indigenous park, so they operate entirely off of donations.
Please spend your boating and water sports responsibly.
Pay it forward to our feathered friends.
