The Players Championship Ponte Vedra Beach
There was a crowd of almost 200,000 at the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach as some of the world’s best golfers vied for the largest payout in men’s golf history of $25 million.
Scotty Scheffler a 6’3 26-year-old Texan that carted four consecutive rounds in the ’60s at Sawgrass to record his sixth win in just 13 months, won the $4 & 1/2 million dollar purse.
The biggest hit at the tournament was his 88-year-old grandmother that walked all 72 holes to watch her grandson become the number one golfer in the world.
Encircled by water and subject to capricious wind the most famous hole in golf, the par 3 – 133 yard 17th hole was full of surprises. Since not recording a hole in one since 2002, there were three that landed in the pin this year.
Overall a good time for golf fanatics along Route 1.
