Seaside Serenity on Route 1: Moose Point State Park, Searsport, Maine

Just north of Belfast and directly off U.S. Route 1, Moose Point State Park is one of those coastal gems that’s easy to miss, but unforgettable once you find it. With sweeping views of Penobscot Bay, tidal pools teeming with life, and walking paths lined with spruce and wildflowers, it’s the perfect spot to stretch your legs and breathe the salt air.

You’ll hear gulls overhead, waves lapping against the rocks, and the wind threading through the evergreens. It’s peaceful in the way only Maine’s midcoast can be, and it’s all right off the main highway.

    Why It’s Worth the Stop

Moose Point offers the kind of classic Maine coastal scenery that feels almost private, even in midsummer. Families spread out picnic blankets overlooking the bay, couples walk the easy loop trails, and photographers come for the soft morning light on the water.

There’s no admission fee for Maine residents, and non-residents pay only a few dollars, well worth it for a quiet hour of sea views. The park also has a small playground and shaded tables, making it an easy stop for travelers with kids or dogs in tow.
