While the body paint is finally washing off and the glitter is gone from the 47th annual party for grown-ups, Key West’s Fantasy Fest was a big success drawing over 100,000.
This year’s theme was Musical Icons and Iconic Musicals and the multi-day costume party looked like a Ziegfield extravaganza with Disco balls, Broadway legends, rock icons and pop-stars everywhere.
It began with 7500 riding in the Zombie Bike parade, the Pet Masquerade, Sloppy Joe’s Toga Party, Tutu’s Tuesday dance party the massive Local’s parade, the Headdress Ball and 10 days (October 16-25) of non-stop partying.
Were their celebrities in attendance? Well you wouldn’t know because here they could wear any crazy costume and not be recognized, just fitting right in with the crowd.
Robin Williams, during his partying days in the early 90’s came to Fantasy Fest a bunch of times (often in pirates costume) because it allowed him to blend in completely without being mobbed by fans and press.
The best news is the Fantasy Fest King and Queen fundraising raised over $200,000 for the Key’s
S.P.C.A. (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
You never know who you’re going to run into at the end of Route 1.
