45th Parallel North Marker - Perry, Maine

Located right on US Route 1 just north of Perry, Maine is a sweet little pull-off with a pink granite stone that marks the 45th parallel; exactly halfway between the equator and the North Pole.

Placed in 1899, the monument reads:

“This stone marks latitude 45 degrees north, halfway from the equator to the pole.”

At the time, the pink granite monument cost $8.00!

The rest stop now has a picnic table with a little cleared area that is perfect for a quick lunch and look around. The area is now overseen by the state of Maine. It’s worth a trip.

You may be talking about the 45th Parallel store, which has been closed for a few years. The rest stop is still there, however.
