Hansom House - The Most Absurd Bar in the World - Dennysville, Maine
The most absurd bar in the world is located in one of the most out-of-the-way locations, right off of US Route 1. Owners Jonathan and Melinda Jaques closed their bar of the same name in Southhampton and moved to Dennysville, Maine to start anew. The Hansom House opened in 2008 and was completed in 2014.
With a small, very Maine menu and a nice selection of beers and wines, it’s a casual place to meet and visit with both new and old friends. What makes this place extra special, is the decor. From a 25-foot-long stained glass scene to a ceiling with 11 sections that can be raised and lowered that are simply covered with a multitude of items. It’s truly a sculpture that will take your breath away.
Sit on the velvet couches, and look at the endless artwork, sculpture, signage, and downright crazy artistic items in every corner.
There is live music and you never know who will be there, this eclectic museum-bar-celebration of art and life keeps no schedule and you need to call to see what’s going on. If you can make it up to Maine, this is a mind-blowing experience.
