Maine Coast Smokehouse
The Maine Coast Smokehouse, a beacon of artisanal smoking methods and dedication to freshness was inaugurated in 2021 by Patricia and Gary Moore, both of whom are deeply rooted in the Maine community. This establishment finds its home at 1545 US Highway, Rt1, Hancock, ME 04640, where it breathes new life into a building rich with history and tradition.
The origins of Maine Coast Smokehouse are deeply personal and rooted in family heritage. Patricia Moore, one of the owners, honed her skills in the art of dry cure artisanal smoking alongside her father within this very building. Her father was a celebrated artisan in his own right, receiving six SOFI awards for his smoked creations before his untimely passing. This legacy of excellence in smoking techniques and a commitment to quality has been the foundation upon which the Smokehouse was established.
Gary Moore, co-owner and Patricia’s husband brings to the Smokehouse a lifetime of experience on the waters around Maine. As a fisherman and captain of the “Casey-n-Taya”, his diverse expertise spans urchin diving, gill netting, and lobster trapping. This wealth of knowledge about local seafood plays a crucial role in the Smokehouse’s commitment to freshness and quality.
Maine Coast Smokehouse prides itself on using all-natural organic certified hard and fruit woods in its smoking processes, ensuring that its products meet the highest standards of quality and sustainability. The Smokehouse offers a range of smoked seafood items, emphasizing the use of fresh, never frozen, smoked salmon. This approach allows consumers to enjoy seafood products that are not only delicious but also responsibly produced.
In addition to its commitment to quality, the Smokehouse also supports other small Maine businesses by promoting and selling their products. By visiting their retail room, customers can sample the Smokehouse’s offerings while also discovering a variety of goods from local artisans and producers.
The Maine Coast Smokehouse embodies the spirit of Maine’s rich maritime and culinary traditions, offering a unique blend of artisanal skill, local sourcing, and community support. Its story is one of resilience, passion, and dedication to preserving and enhancing the craft of smoked seafood for future generations to enjoy.
