Old Key Lime House - Lantana Fl.
The restaurant operates from a house built in 1889 by the Lyman family who sold fish and oysters locally. In case you’re wondering, key limes are native to Southeast Asia. They made their way to the Mediterranean and arrived in America with Christopher Columbus.
By the 19th century, the limes thrived as a commercial crop in the Florida Keys. They became popular in America when FDR visited the Keys and raved about the marvelous taste.
After touring the famous house you can visit the fabulous boutique. Enjoy the largest tiki bar in South Florida. Try a keylime martini while you decide on the locally caught fresh seafood. Their Award-winning homemade key lime pie is absolutely delicious.
Their own description sums up my experience perfectly:
“Visit the world-famous historic water-front restaurant Come to the Old Key Lime House restaurant today and experience the largest TIKI bar in South Florida. You will find locally caught seafood on the menu along with our award-winning key lime pie and the best sunset views around!”
This old Keylime House is a real good time off Route 1.
