Rock's Diner - First Diner on Route 1 South
The first diner on Route 1 sits on the US side of the US/Canada border in Fort Kent, Maine. This beloved diner has had its roots deep in the community since 1945. What started out as a hot dog stand has grown into a full-service restaurant seven days a week. Not just for the local community, Rock’s feeds thousands of people, from catering events at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center to the spectators of the Can-Am Crown Sled Dog Race the first weekend in March.
With the notably Mainer Can-Do attitude, owners Sandra and Peter Pinette took the COVID shutdown in stride. Instead of closing, they started providing take-out family meals, packaged and ready to heat and serve food. During this time, their famous whoopie pies became world-famous, and they started selling them online.
Located directly across from America’s First Mile, this is one diner you just have to visit.
Rock’s Family Diner is located just across from America’s First Mile monument, the marker for the beginning of US Route 1.
