Spring Break Legends: Experience the Elbo Room in Fort Lauderdale's Beachside Heart
On the Set in 1960
The Elbo Room has been a Fort Lauderdale Landmark since 1938 and was featured in the hit 1960 film “Where the Boys Are” with Connie Francis, George Hamilton, Paula Prentiss and Yvette Mimieux.
Spring Break in the ’70s
College students on spring break from all over the country came flocking to Fort Lauderdale to bask in the sun and meet the girl or guy of their dreams.
The phenomenon of spring break continued in Ft Lauderdale through the 1980s.
The bar’s location places it on one end of the Fort Lauderdale strip beachside.
Elbo Room Legacy on “The Strip”
It’s played host to surfing and boogie board championships in the late 1980s and 1990s.
The bar was the scene of the Florida Panthers celebration the night of their 2024 Stanley Cup win.
The Elbo Room was the first commercial establishment in the world to stream live with cameras over the internet in 1996.
After 86 years it’s a bit of a dive bar now, old and run down but there’s live music every day with a great happy hour.
