Whispers of a Bygone Era at the $9 billion Vizcaya Villa
Catch a glimpse into the Gatsby lifestyle of the early 20th century life at the Vizcaya estate.
The Villa encompasses 34 exquisitely decorated rooms and a historic village that once supported the 180 acre estate.
An early preservationist and environmental conservative, James Dearing (1859-1925) began construction of his retreat in 1912 and it’s estimated he spent $20 million which would be to $595 million today.
He was vice president of his father’s business International Harvester, the lead manufacturer of agriculture machinery in the United States in the early 1900s.
On Christmas day in 1916, Deering arrived aboard his yacht the Nepenthe to finally occupy his winter home.
With its Italian Renaissance architecture, a collection of European antiques, custom-made furniture, chandeliers, rooms adorned with intricate tapestries and priceless art pieces, you will feel like an aristocrat strolling through the estate.
The sprawling gardens at Vizcaya are a labyrinth of lush greenery, classical statues, hidden gardens and serene reflecting pools, whispering of a bygone era.
The estate features a charming cafe, often hosting classical music concerts, elaborate weddings and year-round cultural events and art exhibitions.
