Classic Dive Bar since 1933 Pete's Bar Neptune Beach

Unpretentious watering hole, with old school dive bar energy and cheap drinks.

Just a block from the sand, Pete’s Bar has been a go to for locals for 93 years in Jacksonville.

Legend has it that when Prohibition ended, Pete’s was the first establishment in Duval County to be issued a new liquor license. Something of an ironic bit of paperwork since owner Peter Jensen had been selling bootleg spirits at an adjacent grocery store for years.

While the original building is still in use today, it features a popular backyard smoking area outdoor hangout to catch the coastal breeze.

It’s outfitted with pool tables, bumper pool, foosball, a classic jukebox and occasional live music.

Old photos line the walls documenting decades of local history, including a visit by Ernest Hemingway.

Pete’s Bar was also featured in the John Grisham novel “The Brethren”.

Famous since 1985 for hosting a massive legendary annual Thanksgiving morning block party tradition known as “Petesgiving”, attended by at least 5,000.

“The place to be since 33” Pete’s Bar.
