Plainville, MA can hardly be called a Route One hot spot. But there is a warm glow at the Chieftain Pub, a bar and eatery right on Route One (Washington St). There was live music on a Saturday night, something I’ve missed enormously during the pandemic. Even though the place was busy and I arrived without calling ahead, I only had to wait a few minutes before I was seated. The fare is uncomplicated and decidedly Irish. I opted for the bangers & mash, and I was comforted instantaneously as I dipped into my meal, or was that the Jameson’s whiskey? In any case, ithe Chieftain is a worthwhile stop on your Route One journey if you enjoy the company of friendly people, adult beverages and unfancy food.
