This Ain't Your Manhattan Panera
The Unica Cafe is unassuming place in the middle of a busy retail block on Main St in Jersey City is a family run business with an international flair. It began as La Unica Bakery making croissants, cakes, cannoli, tiramisu, flan and cupcakes and morphed into a full service restaurant serving breakfast and lunch. The staff is very hard working, friendly and attentive, and the offerings all look delicious.
I enjoyed the cuban bread sandwich with pork, egg, cheese, mustard and pickles and a sweet cuban style espresso. I look forward to returning soon to try something else and learning more of their story.
The confines are clean and relaxed, on the lines of a Starbucks, but casual and less corporate, decorated with personal family touches. I enjoyed spreading out my laptop on an ample sized table while waiting for my meal and enjoying my coffee. My order was brought out to my table, piping hot as soon as it was ready.
