Shot throughout South Florida in 1990,  director Martin Scorsese”s version of Cape Fear heavily imitated Alfred Hitchcock’s style.

A hypnotically and engrossing thriller that spins along on the dreams and anxieties of its characters.

This suspense and revenge film has multiple scenes of intense violence and threat.

Starring Robert De Niro as Max Kady, a hardened Southern criminal out to terrorize the family of Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte), the lawyer that put him in jail for fourteen years.

Jessica Lange plays the wife and Juliette Lewis the daughter, received an Oscar nomination along with the De Niro for her remarkable performance.

De Niro gained sixty pounds for the role, had his teeth ground down and  his body covered with tattoos (fortunately using vegetable dyes which faded in a few months).

Scorsese inherited the project from Steven Spielberg, who went on to direct Schindler’s List.

The original film from 1962 starred Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum and Martin Balsam, whom all made an appearance in this version.

With a production budget of $35 million,  “Cape Fear” went on to generate a worldwide gross of.  $183 million.
