Forbes Hill Standpipe - Quincy, MA

The Forbes Hill Standpipe is a historic water tower ‌in Quincy, Massachusetts. It was built using Quincy granite between 1900 and 1902 to contain a 330,000 US Gallon steel water tank. The tower was originally part of the Forbes Hill Reservoir system, which included a reservoir that supplied water from the Metropolitan Boston Water System.

In the 1950s, the Blue Hills Reservoir opened in southern Quincy, which largely replaced the Forbes Hill system. The Forbes Reservoir was not being used, and someone drowned in it in 1955, which caused the city to fill it in. The standpipe was taken out of use at the same time. A park replaced the reservoir, and the public could access the roof of the standpipe for a time. Although that is no longer the case.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
