Ghostly Whispers and Time Travel: Discover the Haunted Pritchard House in Florida

Ghost Hunters and locals remain convinced that the house is haunted. From the spooky sound of a creak of the wooden floors,  to the rustling of the flowing Spanish moss outside,  every detail feels like a step back in time.

A slice of history preserved so meticulously that it almost feels alive.

You might get a a shiver down your spine as you walk through a corridor and step into a room.

There’s something undeniably thrilling about hearing of the spirits that may still linger in the halls as the sunbeams through the stained glass windows.

James Pritchard was born in New York City in 1836 and moved to Missouri when the Civil War began.   His father John Pritchard was a Colonel in the Union Army and James was a Captain in the Confederate Army. Thankfully they would never have to face each other in battle.

The family with their three children came to Florida in 1876 where they grew sugar cane.

In June of 1891 they purchased the lot and quickly began  building the house out of heart pine and moved into the home in October of 1891.

The home features a conical corner tower,  one of the key distinguishing aspects of this style.   Other characteristics are the wraparound porch,  accented by it’s steep gables,  veranda and second floor balcony and fish scale wood shingles and the decorative jigsaw scroll work.

Many of the artifacts and antiques belonged to the Pritchard family themselves and the gardens are lovingly maintained.

The decor,  the furniture, the wallpaper, everything is curated to offer the most authentic experience of the 1800s.

Each room tells it’s own story and if the walls could talk you would be captivated by tales of the past.

Embarking on a journey through the Pritchard house is like stepping into a time machine with the friendliest most knowledgeable locals at the helm.

These historian guides are more like your favorite history teachers making the past pop with stories so vivid you swear you could reach out and shake hands with the Pritchard family.

Ninety minute tours are conducted by costumed guides during the hours of 9 to 6 daily for a $10 donation per person.
