Hallet's Drug Store Clock - Bath, Maine

In 1915, Fred Cox, the owner of Hallet’s Drug Store in Bath, Maine, was walking through Boston when he came across a clock with a “for sale” sign on it. He immediately purchased the clock and had it shipped to his store in Bath. The clock was manufactured by the Seth Thomas Clock Co. in 1911.

When Hallet’s Drug Store moved to a new location in 1964, the new owners of the building sold the clock to Harry Crooker. Crooker planned on moving the clock to Thomas Point Beach in nearby Brunswick, Maine. However, the residents of Bath were not in favor of that, and after a public outcry Crooker donated the clock to the city of Bath with two conditions: The clock must be maintained, and if the city ever sold the clock, it would revert to the Crooker family.

The clock was moved in front of the new Hallet’s location. Hallet’s closed in 1982, but the clock, which is one of the few Seth Thomas two-dials to keep its original mechanics, remains. In 2000, the city of Bath raised funds to have the Balzer Family Clock Works of Freeport, Maine restore the clock, fulfilling part of their promise to Harry Crooker.
