This is my year of golf on Route 1.  I may as well start at the bottom and work my way up in 2023, don’t you think?

I began my year in early February with Mini-golf at Boondocks, about 25 miles before you get to Key West on your way down the Overseas Highway.  My partner got a hole-in-one on the first hole.  I knew I was in trouble.  But the golf course was full of fanciful fairy tale stone age themed decorations, replete with waterfalls, ceremonial masks, cave men with clubs and well-established tropical plants.

At the greet and pay center, they’ve got a full bar.  I considered returning there after our opening nine houses for some liquid consolation, but I pressed on, undaunted by the fact that I had been slipping behind my opponent ever so steadily.  I couldn’t blame it on the course.  It is well maintained and eminently fair.  The design of the holes was a little redundant.  Usually there was a choice at the tee; go right or left.  Sometimes it was over or under.  Those were fun.  There were water hazards with fish nets for those who really went off course.  Fortunately, I didn’t need to test them.

On the 10th, a festive tunnel hole through a giant tree, I started to claw my way back.  I finally gained a stroke.  I even got a hole in one on the 18th hole, but it was too late!  My partner had aced the hole, too.  I’d go back to play the Boondocks again.  The lush vegetation provides lots of shade in a place that can be miserable in the mid-day sun.  A round under the lights would be awesome, as well.
