The Brewer House: Rich History, Beautiful Future

Built in 1828 for Captain John Brewer, a wealthy 19th Century shipbuilder, the Greek Revival mansion served as one of the final outposts on the underground railroad. Those escaping slavery hid in the attic until nightfall to then quietly cross the bay into Canada. Today, it’s operated as a four-room bed-and-breakfast, art gallery, and artist studio.

Often referred to as “One of East Coast’s hidden treasures,” the Brewer House is a stunning example of an important part of U.S history.
