The Schuylkill River Trail

I’ve had the pleasure of riding almost every mile of the Schuylkill River Trail, which crosses present-day Route 1 at the Twin Bridges across the Schuylkill River. The easiest place to park off of Route 1 is at 4552 Kelly Drive, just west of the Falls Bridge. From there, you can follow the river into the heart of Philadelphia, or make your way into the suburbs and the exurbs along the trail, which is level and paved almost all the way past Valley Forge National Park to Oaks, PA. Through Phoenixville, there are some on-road sections, but it quickly goes back to a separate paved trail that terminates north of Spring City. There’s a beautiful Audubon loop that takes you past the Historic James Audubon House along the way, as well as many other offshoots from this well-used treasure. The trail comprises more than 70 miles of the 350 miles of completed sections in the Circuit Trails Network in and around Philadelphia. I encourage you to try out one of my “back yard” trails!
