Classic Maine Lobster with Harbor Views: Young’s Lobster Pound, Belfast, Maine

When you picture a Maine lobster pound, you’re probably imagining something that looks exactly like Young’s Lobster Pound. Sitting right on Belfast Harbor and just minutes off Route 1, this family-run spot has been serving lobster straight from the tank since 1928.

Here, the atmosphere is casual and no-frills; you pick your lobster, they steam it, and you carry your tray to a picnic table overlooking the water. On a sunny day, it’s hard to beat the view of sailboats bobbing in the harbor while you crack into a bright red lobster with drawn butter on the side.

    Why It’s Worth the Stop

Young’s is the kind of place that feels both timeless and totally authentic. Lobsters are kept in tanks until cooked, ensuring every bite is fresh from the sea. While lobster is the star, the menu also features clams, mussels, scallops, crab, chowder, and fried seafood baskets, making it easy to satisfy everyone in the group.

It’s also BYOB, so many locals bring a favorite bottle of wine or a six-pack of Maine craft beer to enjoy with their meal. The combination of fresh seafood, harborside seating, and relaxed atmosphere has made Young’s a go-to stop for generations of Route 1 travelers.
