Brad Pitt Race Film Begins Production in Daytona

Production begins January 19th at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway.

This weekend flips the ignition on the entire International racing season with the three-day test of speed and endurance.  

The following weekend is North America’s ultimate examination of band versus Machine versus the clock at the Rolex 24.

The Academy Award winning actor’s new film revolves around the world of Formula 1 racing.

Pitt stars as a driver who comes out of retirement to compete alongside a rookie driver against the titans of the sport.

Seven time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is working as a producer on the film as well as Top Gun Maverick’s director Joseph Kosinski.

In an interview with Variety, Pitt said that he plays “a guy who raced in the 1990s, who has a horrible crash, craps out and disappears, then he’s racing in other disciplines.

His friend Javier Bardem, is a team owner, contacts him.   They’re a last place team,  they’re 21 – 22 on the grid and they’ve never scored a point.

But they have a young phenom played by Damson Idris and they bring me in as a kind of Hail Mary and hijinks ensue.

Tell you what’s amazing about it – there are cameras mounted all over the car – you’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen just the g-force like this.   It’s really, really exciting.”

The yet unnamed film is an Apple Original production with a planned summer 2025 release.

While shooting at the track, they will also be at Papa’s Drive-In and family restaurant and a yet to be disclosed surf shop in Daytona.

Daytona was invaded before by another Hollywood crew in 1990 during the Tom Cruise production of Days of Thunder.

NBC will broadcast the Rolex 24 on January 28th at 1:30 EST.
