Daytona International Speedway
They used to race on the beach before the Daytona International Speedway opened in 1959. With a capacity of over 100,000, this track is home to the Daytona 500, the most prestigious race on the NASCAR calendar with the largest purse. Of the 480 total acres for the speedway facility, 180 make up the infield where the RV parties are quite famous.
The two and a half mile oval takes a NASCAR driver around 45 seconds to complete a lap. Recently I visited with NASCAR great Bobby Allison, a winner of the 500 three times
