Wabanaki Cultural Center and Museum
If you can choose just one stop in Calais, Maine, it should be this hidden gem; The Wabanaki Cultural Center and Museum. Located in the same building as the Maine State Visitor Information Center, the downstairs contains two must-see sections. The first section is a touch pool! Learn about the incredibly high and low tides that the Bay of Fundy has. There are crabs, sea sponges, starfish, and more in the tank. Then, there is a museum that shares some history of the five tribes of native peoples in the area; the People of the First Light. Walking through the museum, learn about how the natives prepared an animal hide, made birchbark canoes, and basket making.Amy Jeanroy Jun 02, 2022 Calais ME Family Places to Visit
