In the early morning hours of November 29, 2019, truck driver Luis Garcia failed to negotiate a turn onto the dam as he drove southbound on Route 1. His truck, which was carrying a full load of trash went though the concrete barrier and dropped 80 feet onto the dry apron on the downriver side of the dam below. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
