Elevenses Café & Bakery – Brunswick, Maine
Elevenses opened in early 2025 at 50 Maine Street in Brunswick, Maine, in the former Kings & Queens Barbershop. The café takes its name from the mid-morning meal in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and leans into that theme with both menu and atmosphere. Owners Nicole and Chris Juntura—English majors and longtime Tolkien fans—designed the space to feel like a cozy, lived-in hobbit home.
The menu features items like Scotch eggs, scones with clotted cream, and full English breakfasts, alongside teas and drinks with names pulled from Middle-earth. “Lembas bread,” seed cake, and savory pies round out the offerings. Much of it’s made in-house using local ingredients, and the space is small—just a few tables inside and limited counter service.
Despite the limited hours, Elevenses quickly drew attention online and in local press, with a steady stream of Tolkien fans and brunch seekers alike. It’s not a theme park—it’s a working café with a clear point of view. And it’s brought something new to downtown Brunswick: a place where breakfast meets world-building.
