Experience the Wonders of Nature at Linvilla Orchards
Linvilla Orchards, a 300-acre farm located in Media, Pennsylvania, is a beloved destination for families and nature enthusiasts. The farm was purchased by Quaker Arthur Linvill and his mother Lydia in 1914. Arthur, who initially delivered fresh milk and cream by horse and buggy, had a vision of growing fruit. This vision led to the establishment of a farm market at Linvilla in an octagonal barn.
The Linvill family has always been passionate about education. They started school tours as early as the 1960s, aiming to educate urban and suburban families about how food is grown. This commitment to education and community involvement continues today.
In 1971, Peg Linvill, a member of the family, created a harvest display that won first place in the Philadelphia Horticulture Society’s Harvest show. This display was brought back to the farm and marked the beginning of Pumpkinland, a popular annual event. The same year, the farm also started its “pick your own” program.
Today, Linvilla Orchards is run by four siblings – Sue, Steve, Nancy, and Jean. They all work at the farm and make decisions by committee. The farm now employs 50 full-time employees and hires an additional 250 workers seasonally.
In 2002, a fire tragically burned down the 80-foot tall octagonal barn. However, showing resilience and dedication, the Linvill family rebuilt it. Today, Linvilla Orchards is not just a farm but an entertainment destination, and sells items ranging from produce to plants and home decor. It also features a beer garden, a petting zoo, a greenhouse, and even a swim club. It’s a great fall experience for families who can pick fruit, go on hayrides, or sit by a bonfire.
Linvilla Orchards has been recognized nationally for its excellence. In 2020, it was included in The Daily Meal’s list of the nation’s best orchards. The farm hosts several festivals throughout the year, including an Antique Car Show, Apple Festival, Blueberry Festival, Strawberry Festival, and Peach and Sunflower Festival.
Visitors to Linvilla Orchards can participate in a variety of activities. These include fishing, mini-golf, navigating a corn maze, and pony rides. With its rich history, commitment to education and community involvement, and wide range of activities and events, Linvilla Orchards offers an enriching experience for all visitors. Afterwards, they can enjoy fudge, apple cider donuts, apple cider, and a variety of other delicacies at the market!
